David - please note the spelling of my Christian name. By the way, after a second look I see one photo was allegedly taken on 3 May, the rest on 3 Mar - what is the betting that this too is a typo? Mary, I'm surprised you didn't come back about anything I had said about the photos, you usually have ...

Thanks for that David. I'm not sure that the girl being tossed is herself from CH, it says it is a Guide Camp at CH Horsham, so ... When I was a Guide at CH we didn't have CH camps at all, if we wanted to we went to England Schools Guide Camps. The Domestic Science class is being taught by Betty Juk...

First time in Asia is pretty astounding (or sub-Saharan Africa for that matter!) I thought it might be a bit easier now that so many have seen documentaries but apparently not. No documentary can fully prepare you for heat and humidity - nor the smells of the place!

So glad you could confirm the embroidered CH - I'm not really sure that I remember seeing it, I think I remember someone complaining at its passing rather than ever seeing one.

The looms were there in my day at the back of the room, never used them myself so can't remember much about them.

You can click on it to enlarge. It does say it was photographed March 3 1953 at Christ's Hospital School. I didn't realise GAs were so recent. Thanks Mary. Can't quite remember when the GA came in. When I went to the school there was a strictly limited number of Mons Badges (2 for each house, 2 for...

I remember it well. By the time I was at school we didn't wear our pinnies there but the discarded calico nighties which had been cut up the back to make overalls! The looms were still there in the 60s. It looks as if the girl standing at the back is wearing a Monitress's badge - which would also ex...

I agree with RR - but perhaps we should ask the Moderator to moderate?? meanwhile Josh and Jude (the two Js!) we love your creativity. Keep at it!! I'd like some of whatever it is Jude is on, my creativity has upped and gone recently - it never was in the form of poetry. I was bottom of the form at...

Some very profound thoughts in this thread. I am very lucky, I don't have any personal experience of this, just a feeling of exclusion but nothing more than that. However, I do think it is necessary to help both parties to cope with life - I shall call it life to encompass feelings, emotions and all...

Couldn't agree more, Julian. There are some people whose emails I never open if the tag line includes Fwd. I have better things to do with my time (such as read this forum!)

As you may have gathered from some of my postings we lived overseas most of our working life. John worked for the British Council - which helped to pay school fees so CH was not really an option for us. I went to Hertford at just 12 rather than 11 and took some time to break into friendship groups. ...
