Re: Fishing

I have only just seen this item. Nell Todd gave me her steel trout fly rod 8 ft, which finally rusted through some five years ago.Very early use of steel in fly rods.top class fittings. Interested in your proposal for fishing meeting. I have recently retired as the North East Regional Director for t...

Re: Picture in the Times ? Housey

Great picture. Gas light is the same as Times picture. Suggest photo taken same time as the Times version but slightly to the left and nearer the end wall. Height of window above ground-no way of looking out again points to late 19th century architecture for schools. However what is the ladder that ...

Re: Picture in the Times ? Housey

The lighting looks like a gas candelabra c 1880-1920. Could it be a pic from the London days. Was Horsham ever illuminated by gas-unlikely? I settle for a London infirmary ward. Regards John Saunders

Bristol University Health Records Research

Some years ago-perhaps four or five- I was contacted by a medical research group from Bristol University who wished to research the medical records of CH Boys. Apparently the records are unique and complete, very useful data for the medics. I am certain those who took part were promised information o...

Re: London site of CH

Regret I cannot scan the Trollope to get the translations. The volume would not take kindly to such an action. Edward VI is 12 pages. If you need any check in particular I should like to help. Regards John Saunders Th.B 1948-55

Re: London site of CH

Snsom is still in print. Most entertaining . I have just consulted my 1834 copy of the CH History by Trollope. Lots of lovely latin but fortunately some helpful translations. He lists the gifts by Henry VIII as well as Edwd VI.,of the churches ,manors and messuages etc given to the City Fathers.. It...

Re: The Old Swimming Baths J G Steel Peele A 1940-1947

Refence the comment on the Abbot Watch. I am looking at the trophy I received after winning the Abbot Watch in July 1955. In my case I had a watch so chose a trophy instead. It was a long haul I dont know how many lengths now. I tracked Johnny Coggins Mid B for all but the last two lengths. He was a...

Re: CH Colours

I don't think Wings exist anymore. However I have remembered further. The Wings badge was very padded and stood off the blazer pocket. The normal Housey badge was rather thin pathetic wired job. Additionally Swimmers with school colours were issued with a XV1 bather.Black and yellow latterly, but blu...

Re: CH Colours

So far as I know "colours" as such were not awarded when I was there. What were the criteria? If it was simply competing on behalf of CH (as an individual or part of a team) then probably there are a lot of us who are entitled to them sejintenej was there at the same time as I was, and co...
