Re: grace
Geoffrey you mentioning "miming" reminded me of the time one of the Girls (possibly Louise Pickett?) mimed reading Grace whilst a lad with a particularly deep tone provided voiceover duties in the late 80s. Twas rather funny; I don't think there was any comeback from it either as I think i...

Re: Tuck shop
I am truly saddened at this news. Many a happy few minutes in the early afternoon were spent in the queue figuring out what to spend 50p on (usually a quarter of Kola Kubes or Bonbons and a Wham bar). They had all sorts of useful stuff there too - I bought my first shaving razor there! Sadly it has ...

Re: So, the underground tunnels...
The map I've got isn't very large and as stated my editing skills are rubbish, so it's not supposed to show going as far as the station. IIRC there was a little spur that went as far as the Estate Staff's little clubhouse (fairly near to the Old Gym/Swimming Pool building) in the 80s. I heard that s...

Re: So, the underground tunnels...
Holy thread revival Batman! I have quickly put together a very basic map of where I believe the tube ran (not having investigated much of it I cannot be sure) - please excuse my computer skills as this is not something I am good at! Can anyone reflect on how accurate/inaccurate this is? It'd be fasc...

Re: Did we have half terms?
Yes we did. I remember contacting my friends at home to let them know when I was coming home. They usually lasted a week. The half term during the Lent Term was always short though - I remember it being from Thursday until Sunday some time in Feb. My last summer half-term I skived off the first peri...

Re: What Were You Useless At?
I can't say I was rubbish at music as I was never taught it at any point. In theory I could have been good at it. Guess I will never know. Now the thing I was rubbish at was running. Sprinting? Hopeless. Long distance? Probably worse. Middle distance? Nope, no good there either... I managed to get o...

Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
A fine young player who has been tearing up trees during training for London Wasps, who I support (I am still not quite sure why...). Nice to see that his ability has been recognised.

Re: Roger Martin
Roger Martin taught me English on the GE, and he was a fantastic teacher. Eltheldreda always accompanied him into the classroom, and he quite often smoked a pipe on the way to class. One day he put said pipe in his pocket at the beginning of the lesson and then started to teach for 10 minutes or so,...

Re: Mr.Grimshaw.......
KHG was, in my personal opinion a firm but fair kind of guy, and as previously stated, extremely organised. He was my Junior Housemaster in Maine B for 3 years in the mid 80s. He was also a massive disciplinarian, and would take great delight in allowing his UF monitors to dish out a House Drill sho...

Re: Old Beds, Settles Etc
Have you not seen the price of scrap metal recently??!!
I know there's a settle and a bed frame in the museum in the sicker but I'd imagine the majority of the old stuff is now baked bean cans and car body parts.
