For those who might be interested - ie none of you - I am informed that the Independent has an article about Adam Smith today.
Probably also available on the internet.

My father introduced me to toast and dripping around 1951. Thick slices of bread, toasted on the fire, then coated with dripping collected earlier from the Sunday roast, with a sprinkling of salt ! I haven't had that for yonks ! LUVVERLEY ! Yeuch. I got taken out one night in Frankfurt (when I was ...

When I was there there were school monitors & house monitors. School monitors had special privileges like walking along the path next to the boarding houses  Or sitting up on the dais with the powers that be. Or reading grace at lunchtime. I was a house monitor - all that meant was that y...

I grew up almost expecting to go, my OB father was very keen on our going. My brother, Peter, had stated in Prep A when I was just 5. When the younger of my two brothers (a year older than me) failed to get in there was gloom and dismay all around. Peter had a BSB Presentation, John and I took Almo...

Just to clarify for non-Hertford Old Blue members of this Forum. 'Mons' = Monitresses. The Senior Girls in each House, those who led the procession as we marched from our Houses (in Midget's day they were called 'Wards') up to Dining Hall for our meals. For Gemma's benefit, monitors /esses are what...

By marching last you could scoot back across the square when 2s were marching, or even 7s and still be in place in time to march. It also meant that we didn't have to sit and wait in Dining Hall for everyone else! At Horsham is the order of houses constant or does it change? Having two doors, every...

My rates are about 50% of those in Guildford so I have no idea how they do it, but wish the local government in the UK would take a leaf out of the Spanish book. In France I have a separate rubbish disposal charge (which I think is a flat fee) of about £30 per annum tied on the bottom of the rates...

so what's the problem?
When I was employed by someone else I got up around 7.50am. Now I start work (in a dressing gown) at 6.30 am. It would bve useful to have a wake up call!

I have been to the Natwest and they are the same weight The Natwest where I regularly bank up to £12k in the season could not answer my question. They tried to persuade me to invest in a note counter instead, but I don't want that. WQhat's the problem? Back in the days when we counted everything t...

The title is "has been slapped on the wrist" but it is too horrible to give a link to. (It's on the BBC site!)

and for Mickey Caine's benefit BBC stands for BBC

This person's number appears to be ex-directory; the engine I would use for that is not "up" at the moment. This information may be 'publicly available' (in France?) but surely if someone is ex-directory then that person does not want their number to be made generally available and their ...

In 1984 (13 yerars after I left) I was on TV in a quiz show and an old friend decided to look me up. She had my address while at CH but no phone number. My parents had moved twice since then and Directory Enquiries (still a person in those days) said "there is no-one of that name at 44 but the...

Re: Josephine Maude (Hertford 1963 - 69, 6's) [STILL LOOKING

I am looking for Josephine Maude, Princess of Cool, Hertford 1963 - 69, 6's. Another impressive plait, if I remember correctly? Always washed in Linc-O-Lin Beer shampoo (little beige plastic beer-barrel squeezy container) for extra shine! No plaits any longer I'm afraid, and she's changed her brand...
