1965 surely?

If he’s currently 82 he would only have been 19 in 1955.

Re: Who Knew What?

It depends how you define who, knew, and what. On one occasion, probably in 1978 or 1979, the entire dining hall united in a chant of 'Pedo!, Pedo!, Pedo!, Pedo!, ...' while Peter Webb attempted to officiate at tea. This was extremely loud with a lot of shouting, banging of cutlery on tables, etc. ...

Re: When You Left CH, Did You Cease to Have Access to the Musical Instrument You'd Learned How to Play?

I attribute my love of classical music and opera to the fact that I never played an instrument or joined a choir while at CH.

Conversely, compulsory games probably contributed to my almost total lack of interest in sports, particularly team sports.

Strange thing, education.

Re: A day by the seaside (aka Husband's folly)

Jeremy Goulding was headmaster of Shrewsbury School (where Dobbie was employed after CH) until he retired in 2010. So far as I know Goulding never worked at CH.

Re: James Andrew Husband, Pickering Town Council

It looks like they've been quietly working round Husband for some time. This is from the minutes of a council meeting in January 2018. Note that the bank account signatories were 2 councillors and the assistant town clerk. The council decided that it would • close both its current and reserve accoun...

Re: CH response when reporting abuse - experience of others?

I contacted the School's Safeguarding Team just before Christmas and again their response was very impersonal but they did pass my email on to the appropriate people. I was not the victim of the circumstances I described (and there may not have been any abuse involved) so I wasn't looking for a symp...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

It's worth pointing out that in 1990 when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, and triggered the First Gulf War, many religious types took this as a sign that the final battle of Armageddon and the end of the world were upon us, which in some cases distracted them from matters closer to hand. I'm glad we'...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

Is that worth pointing out? Part of the school's stated mission is to enable boys and girls to: "develop first the skills, learning habits, independence of mind and spiritual awareness that will enable and motivate them to continue to educate themselves throughout their lives; and second, a hig...

Re: The Sentencing hearings

Thanks Richard, very helpful. According to the police report Dobbie and Webb were resident in France. If he is released after 8 years Dobbie will be 75. Will the authorities in France, Albi in particular, be informed of his crimes and warned of his release? I seem to remember there was talk in parl...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

I welcome the fact that safeguarding is now taken so much more seriously; of course I do. But for me, at least, telling us about the current regime misses the point. That's why the Headmaster's statement to Old Blues is profoundly unsatisfactory. Let me explain. As a result of these court cases and...

Thank you for sharing this message. I can't think of anything adequate to say. It's just heartbreaking to hear what you've been put through. I hope you will be able to draw strength from seeing Husband and Dobbie put behind bars, and that you get all the support you will need to help you rebuild you...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

I don't think that's quite right. The reports I've seen say that it was the mother of one of the eight victims of Dobbie who reported it to Neil Fleming. During some of the gatherings boys were rated in order of their attractiveness, a girl was given alcohol and opened the bathroom door to find Dobb...
