Re: Bishop Ball documentary BBC2 2100 TONIGHT

I suppose that in any industry a freemasonry develops in which people are unwilling to rat on a colleague with whom they may have become friends. The problems of trying to prove what they think they've seen or heard. Oi! headmaster! I believe that Mr Jones is spending suspiciously long hanging arou...

Re: Bishop Ball documentary BBC2 2100 TONIGHT

I know of only one case where somebody actually had a backbone and it wasn't a teacher. R F Salisbury, the Clerk of Christ's Hospital, was so outraged when he heard a teacher had been moved on, that he went over the heads of the Headmaster and Council of Almoners and reported that person to the Dep...

Re: Bishop Ball documentary BBC2 2100 TONIGHT

They shouldn't be allowed to call it "historical abuse" until they have PROVED it isn't still going on. The default assumption should be that it still is. No one currently or previously employed there has been able to give any substantial, concrete description of how safeguarding procedur...

Re: Leave Days in Horsham

Different shopping regime in those days and the day really dragged from 5 pm when the shops closed. By then you have long since visited any shops you actually wanted to go to. Post A levels I remember James Bishop and I making a pilgrimage to London to watch a film only to egg each other on into wat...

Re: R Rae

Companies House has a Robert Rae recorded as director for a 10 year period of a block of flats in Horsham.

The date of birth would make him 93 which sounds right.

There is no record of a Will in the last 5 years so it sounds as though he is still with us.

Re: Elizabeth Cairncross

In the 1970s many of the meals incorporated " kesp" which was a textured vegetable protein used as a substitute for meat. What felt at times like the virtual disappearance of meat leaves me wondering whether the school was some sort of guinea pig fro kesp in the way that Dr Trevor Hoskins ...

Re: The silence of Elizabeth Cairncross

The 1960 Act was replaced by the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The 2003 Act created a host of offences against youngsters. In addition section 1 of the Protection of Children Act 1978 which made possession of indecent photographs of children an offence remains in force.

Re: The silence of Elizabeth Cairncross

The police didn't hand out a probation order: a court did. As the offence took place so long ago it is difficult to track down the sentencing powers available to the court at the time. But whatever the offence it is likely to have be replaced by the offence of Indecent conduct towards young child cr...

Re: prison releases

Webb won't.

Those in open prison are not particularly high risk.

So far as those in other prisons are concerned, I think they will release prisoners serving very short sentences who can be supervised for a short period in the community.

Re: Another one charged Peter Webb, aged 77.

Beyond stating what the precise charges are, this subject has to go on lockdown.

I can say with 100% certainty that jurors do read the forum.

I am happy to discuss this by private message.

Re: Now it reaches Eton

Have I got this right but wasn't it parents and alumni of Eton and Queen's Club who appeared in the box as witnesses to attest to Karim's excellent character when he was up before the beak? Perhaps it's Eton as well as Christ's Hospital who can't see these people coming (fnurg fnurg). It was indeed...
