I could have guessed that this thread might turn out this way. I think I'll limit my response to simply saying that my overwhelming experience here has been that people - other students and staff - are more friendly and more welcoming than their counterparts here in the UK, especially to the British...

Well it's certainly different - especially coming straight from Horsham! Without stirring up too much in the way of nationalistic sentiments, I do have to say the enthusiasm and intensity the Americans put into everything is definitely refreshing. Life's pretty busy at the moment - I'm pledging, amo...

Well, I'm hearing only good things about the history department here from the majors and grads who I've spoken to... I mean, one senior who I know is planning on trying to hang on here to become a grad student - but I would assume that his focus, the American South, would not be one you share! Sorry...

Well, I've hardly been here long enough to comment from personal experience, but I've a friend who is a History major (a senior), and is interested in further study here - give me a day or two to chat to him!

Yes, I sure we can make an exception to you - as long as Johnny promises to keep his pyrotechnics well away from the wood

Well, it isn't quite that simple. One can notice the difference in terminology between the British news reports and the Iranian statements, where the Iranians consistently term the captures as 'arrests' of individuals who have committed a criminal act by trespassing and there is clearly little sugge...

If we don't stand strong and firm NOW , it will only be a matter of time before our National heritage is no more, and all our women will be forced to walk the streets wearing veils and covering their ankles so as not to 'offend' the muslims ! I think that to take the extreme stance of the above arg...

Good to see so many responses! I can see that the harder challenge for us will be arguing convincingly that a common language is an absolute necessity - once we've cleared that hurdle, to present English as the forerunner to be that language ought be less difficult!

After a brief look through the CH Photos section, it seems that people began wearing their Broadies at the back sometime after 1986. When I started in 1993, it was certainly the norm… except for the 2nd formers, who had to wear their buckle at the front with much enforcement from the 3rd formers ...

Thanks for the reply Mark, If,as you say, it has become a tradition then I guess it is going to be very difficult to change. That is a pity.... I find myself looking at CH photographs, not at the whole picture but looking to see who has the buckle in the right place... is that sad or what? Thanks a...
