Re: GRACE
I recall one occasion when a Jewish Grecian (the name escapes me) modulated the closing formula to: "Through Jesus Christ your Lord" – and was reprimanded, though perhaps not punished more concretely. Frankly – as a practising Christian both then and now – I think this was an honest and r...

Re: Frank Ledwith
I bumped into Frank shortly after leaving CH. We were both staying in the same hotel in the Lake District. 'The Hollins' was exactly like Fawlty Towers. He was in the lounge after dinner surrounded by family and was holding court. It was obvious from what he was saying that he was an OB, so I signe...

in the unlikely event that any of you immensely serious, snotty English public school types actually like country music) Cheeky generalisation. Friday nights down t'pub it was standing space only if you could squeeze in. For a pint and a couple of quid in the bucket you got three hours of country b...

Re: Sad news of Colin Somerville
I see Colin was at CH for some of the time I was although I never knew him.
He sounds a good bloke and highly regarded. Sadly I have come across a lot of bright people who have been cursed with early onset dementia. My own Uncle was one.
RIP Colin.

Re: The CCF Signals Section
David O'Meara's death was rather sad. Three retired C.H. masters, all living in single flats in Horsham, used to meet on Friday evenings for a pint (or two), something to eat and a long, long chat. One was Bob Rae, one was David O'Meara, but the name of the third I never knew. Anyway, one Friday Da...

Re: CCF alternative
We had the Police Cadets as an option during my time. We drove a panda car round the mile, went out on patrol with a constable on a Sunday, visited the control tower at Gatwick and Bramshill College in Hampshire where the 'accelerated promotion' candidates studied amongst other activities. I don't t...

Re: R Rae
However, my main reason for posting is off-topic curiosity. Who was (is) RKW? I either have a mental block or he appeared after my time. The late Roger Wilson, father of Jeremy and Simon. He taught maths and was housemaster of one of the senior houses before going off to be headmaster of another sc...

Re: R Rae
Bob Rae ended his CCF career as a Wing Commander (RAFVR(T)); when he retired he was presented with an RAF officers' sword paid for by general subscription from, amongst others, OBs. I got a strong impression he was well-respected by 'Chief' Bradley (along with Lt Col Morton Peto), both of whom were...

Re: Pongo - Eric Littlefield
He was running the School cricket 1st XI when I started in 1965, being succeeded by John Dennison (?spelling) a year or two later. If he (Littlefield) was deemed good enough to run the the first XI, at a time keen and able cricketers like Basil Gregory and Tom Keeley, amongst others of similar age o...

I have no recall of any restrictions to access of the library. Indeed it was a place I regarded as a 'safe haven' when times were bad. You were left to your own devices which suited me fine.

Re: Now it reaches Eton
There have been a number of adverse comment about the character witnesses in the Karim case, the latest being above: " Have I got this right but wasn't it parents and alumni of Eton and Queen's Club who appeared in the box as witnesses to attest to Karim's excellent character when he was up be...

Re: I.A.R. Christie, Lamb A 1956-63
Pop quiz: which family had the most brothers at CH? In my day, the Savages. 3 (or 4?). Also in your day 3 Farnfields. I remember the Farnfields well, but perhaps not as well as I thought, as I only remember 2 of them! Pete was in the year above me, and became a very impressive Band Captain (is that...
