Just got our letter!!!

He got in!!!!

We didn't do any practise tests either! That might come back and bite me on the bum in a week or two though

I expect that they should be near a level 6 by the time they FINISH year 6, but considering the first tests are in November and the children have nearly a whole year of maths teaching, it's unlikely many children will be at a level 6 when they do the tests. BTW I'm glad I didn't speak to the head of Maths at the open day, as I'm not sure we'd have even attempted the exams if we thought he needed a level 6 in Maths!

He thought the examples were harder than the January tests, we were quite worried by the examples as the algebra questions,for example, were quite hard for him. But CH explained that there would be questions which the children hadn't covered at school and not to worry about them.

Just spoken to my son, he had no issues with the exams. Maths apparently is harder than the ks2 sats and the Jan paper in maths was harder than in Nov. English was fine. The selection process is really well done imo, but as a parent it's really hard, because I think they're really looking at persona...

Are the results posted on the 14th or do they arrive on the 14th? I'm getting a little frustrated waiting now, I'm not expecting my son to get in, but it will be nice to know for sure and be able get on with life, which seems to have been on hold for the last few months!

In the autumn parents evening I was told my son was working beyond 5b and that is all the highest they test for at his junior school. He passed the initial exam, but I can't tell you whether that is enough as we still have another week to wait for the results

How do they select who goes through to the residential assessment? I'm now slightly worried about the musical instrument part of it. I hope it won't matter if he's not very good, it's certainly not his strong point!

ha ha, we did request a music audition, goodness knows why, he's learning the double bass, but there isn't much musicality to him lol

Eek, my son made it through to the next round!!! I'm so pleased for him, we did no tutoring/practise so it's all been down to him.
