Re: Elizabeth Cairncross

My housemaster smiled and said “ah you’re back” when I finally returned late in the evening, so they knew we were missing, but no apology or asking if we were ok that I can remember, I doubt they told my guardian as they never mentioned it to me. Still have anxiety in big cities. Not quite the same...

Re: Brexit

Never brought Marmite etc from the UK, but at the time of writing, PG Tips, my Costa Rican wife's favourite tea, is still available on the shelves of the local Carrefour etc, here in the Valencian community. If I've got my geography right, Valencia is a fairly big city and has a busy port, so it sh...

Re: Dorm Raids

Nothing like that in my day !! You surprise me. I have vague memories of waking up one day to find a line of Barnes B britches hung out between Barnes B and Maine A. How that happened I am not sure, but we had to take revenge some how. We decided to do something similar, but were surprised as we we...

I was hoping they might suggest some other, maybe sporting, activities.

Re: The wacky world of catheters

My Irish neighbour here in Spain is in the same situation. He had the misfortune in that they thought that the problem was resolved, removed said catheter, and were surprised when he appeared in Emergency a few hours later. Now waiting for the operation. Curiously, nearly 50 years ago I was offered ...

Re: A question regarding a punishment book

Hi Dennis My recollection of times were: Loop 5 minutes Mile 8 minutes Long mile (Mile with the extra bit around the loop) 10 minutes Double mile 16 minutes. You had already moved for the final year as a mixed age house before Barnes B became a junior house, but you may remember Fisher. He was dayro...

Re: Nell Todd painting for sale

Apart from teaching art, Nell Todd (and her predecessor Mr A.A. Kent both) had another duty, which no one has documented so far in the Forum. They presided over “Bad writing classes,” but that probably wasn’t their official name. I was forced to attend such classes held by each of the two. All they...

Re: Flecker’s Banning of some Comics

I graduated from “Robin” to “Eagle” via “Swift”. My mother would send me the “Eagle” every week, until we switched it to the “Children’s Newspaper “. I seem to remember that someone else received the “Beano”. I’m pretty certain others read our copies and it never occurred to me that there might have...

Re: Independent obituary of Mark Cousins (Maine A 1957-66)

I have a feeling that his CH dates are incorrect. I remember the name and according to his dates, he would have been on my year, but he was not in any of my forms. Given that he received a First in 1968, he must have been at least one or two years before me, probably one as I will be 73 later this ...

Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

I was just about to say much the same thing! Equally irrelevant, but John Gower, at the time chairman of CHA, and I, met the CHA manager in London to go over some stuff related to the Blue. At one stage the CHA manager remonstrated with us, saying that she had noticed with Old Blues, their tendency...

Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

Those figures ring a bell, but at university my parents contributed nothing as I had to get a job so that they didn't have to pay. In fact I got a student apprenticeship and the company gave me an annual grant of £100. This is something that puzzles me. The only thing I heard at CH about universiti...
