Re: MASTERS' CARS

The song "Never mind the why and wherefore" comes from "HMS PInafore" which was performed in the Prep.Hall for four nights in February 1943. There is an excellent review of the production in "The Blue" for March/April 1943 by T.K. Mortimer-Booth.Two of the Masters' wive...

MASTERS' CARS

How many CH Masters owned cars in the immediate post war years I wonder? In my day in the late nineteen forties I remember that Edward Malins had an Austin Ten? Registration No. AUE 132. A.H. Buck had a small Austin Seven. Did he not have an accident in Streatham High Road when returning from an Ami...

Re: House Rolls.

The CH Blue Books from 1973/74 have a section entitled House Rolls which give numbers of all boys in seniority order. Are these still published? I have a limited collection of these dating from September 1941 until February 1952 (missing 1942, 1949 to 1951) plus five from 1972/73 to 1976/77. The Mus...

Nursemaids

Does anyone recall the nursemaid system whereby all new boys were allocated a nursemaid to help them assimilate into the school. Mine was B.J. Ashmead {Prep A ) September 1941?
Ibelieve that CH Hertford had a similar system and that they were called Housemothers.

Re: House Rolls.

I did overlap with Neil the Notorious by one year as I left in Dec 1947. He played Laertes in Hamlet
I remember.

Re: House Rolls.

There is a small collection of House Rolls in the Museum dating from around 1940, What would be interesting is to have a list of individual House numbers from 1902. I was Coleridge A 20 and know that my two immediate predecessors were T.W.P Briscoe 1935-42 ( killed in WW 2 in Burma) and B.D. Carr 19...

Teddy Edwards

The reason for my enquiry is that there was an A.C. Edwards who played in 1901 for St. Edmund's School Canterbury. His name appears in the Cricket Archive. This could well be him as he was born in 1882. His full christian names were Alfred Cecil Wall. Other CH masters there include G.W. Pink, St. Jo...

A.C.W. Edwards Master 1904-46

Can anyone tell me at which school Teddy Edwards was educated? I have a thought that it may have been St. Edmund's Canterbury.

East Lodge entrance

If the Lord Mayor enters by the East Gate then presumably other V.I.P.s will do so. Apart from royal visits, e.g. The Queen and the President, what other people would be eligible, if any?

EAST LODGE ENTRANCE TO CH

Does any one know the date when the above entrance was closed to through traffic? It was certainly still open in 1961 as I drove in that way. In those happy days on the road one was able to park at the back of the Houses or in the Art School Car Park. I seem to remember that the CH Clerk G.A.T. Alla...

Re: Birthday Honours 2011

DearRex,
It seems a long time since we corresponded. Hope that you are keeping well.
Have you ever considered compiling a list of Who Was Blue at Horsham perhaps to complement
the recent one on Victorian Old Blues?

Timothy Rene Bayley Coleridge A 1940-48

Has anybody any trace of the above Old Blue who was a contemporary of mine in Coleridge A?
He did have an older brother in Middleton B who died some years ago.

Dear David, Pleased to see your name in the Forum. Hope that you are keeping well. I assume that you will have retired by now. Are you still in Frome? Have been in touch with David McKie. He was a great friend of my brother Nick who you will know sadly died in 2008. Quite a lot of Col. A Old Blues o...

CH Water Tower

How much is really known about the School's most well known landmark, the Water Tower? What is its capacity and precisely how do the mechanics work of supplying the water? I wonder how many Old Blues during their time at CH or afterwards have ever climbed to the top. I seem to remember that some ent...
