Re: A letter from the CHOBA board
Or even Rev Porteous who was convicted later in a prep school. Wonder if he was involved in anything whilst at CH.... This is a very serious allegation. I have tracked down this link but am not really sure that the image is the same Michael Porteous I once knew? Can anyone else confirm? http://www....

1) and 2) . Your problem is that the law says CH has to pay them. No way round this.

How sure are you that he didn't write a reference for Baker? Your post doesn't explicitly say that he didn't.

No doubt this would be possible once we leave the EU.
But also 20% VAT on school fees becomes possible once we leave the EU.

Re: Hammer blows to CH finances
Thanks for some proper and more meaty responses! I do think that the pension increase will be challenged. After all a) the pension is paid out of tax and does not have to invest in ultra low bonds (which have suspiciously just risen anyway) and b) when the government was negotiating with unions thre...

Re: Resignation of Baker and emergency appointment of Hansford
Interesting phrase Tim, it is the first time I have ever heard anyone say Baker was ‘dismissed’. Obviously as pupils we were told he had left and I don’t remember any other info, or at least none that my Mum shared with me. Any more you can share as to why? . Craig, You are quite right to pull me u...

I am just a little surprised that threat outlined in this thread - which could significantly undermine CH's ability to fulfil its mission - surely a concern to us all? - hasn't attracted any posts beyond comments on the pension system in general or people's own pensions.

Re: Corporal Punishment by CH Teaching staff
This is an intriguing discussion. Where, on balance, do people stand?
Is the CH you loved dependent on corporal punishment to maintain the standards of dress and discipline many of you value?
Or should corporal punishment never have been allowed?

Hammer blows to CH finances
Two things could hit the school's financial model for six. 1) The Treasury is proposing to increase the employers pension contribution by 42% from 16+% to 23+% . Given that staff costs are the biggest part of running a school I would suggest that this adds between 4-5% to CH's costs nest year. LEAs...

Re: Resignation of Baker and emergency appointment of Hansford
What did he change? Well the school became a mixed school under his headship! Probably the biggest change in the history of CH. We were all shocked to come back to find that Baker had been dismissed. To paraprhase Oscar Wilde, "‘To lose one head (Newsome) may be regarded as a misfortune; to lo...

I agree. It has the appearance of a sexist response.
