On a happier note: The Good Teachers!

They were in the majority. I'll start: Gerald Davies. Being taught English by him was a bit strange, Shakespeare in a Welsh accent. But on the rugby pitch I loved every moment. He never said much but I remember that he told me one day that I could be good at rugby. Those few words coming from him pi...

Re: Housey Rap, recent convictions

Presumably an age thing.

But personally I believe the subject to be so serious that this type of post should not be here.

Re: How far did the rot spread?

Ha Ha! Same old right-wing crap. Politics of envy! Are you prepared to pay the tax necessary Julian to give all the schools the facilities that the public schools have? Where do we start? What about the playing fields? The state schools might have decent playing fields but I have a feeling that som...

Re: How far did the rot spread? Post by Janey Jam-Jar » Tue Jul 17, 2018 9:20 am Please read Nick Duffell on the subject of boarding ('The Making of Them' and 'Trauma, Abandonment & Privilege') and Joy Schaverien ('Boarding School Syndrome'). I thought there was something inherently wrong with ...

How far did the rot spread?

I am fully aware that for the vast majority of pupils being at CH was the chance of a lifetime. At the very least it was for some a roof to sleep under and food on the table. But for those of us who just wanted to be at home with Mum and Dad? Those of us who were constantly homesick. Those of us who...

Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr

I strongly object to the word peccadilloes being used to explain away a crime otherwise known as sexual abuse. Likewise to JR there is no such thing as master/pupil relationships in the sense that it was once again sexual abuse and nothing else.

CH and flu

During my time at CH ( late sixties early seventies ) I recall that some if not all of the pupils took part in an early trial injection against flu. All I know is that since that injection I have never had flu and rarely a cold. Anyone else remember anything about this?

Apart from the fact that Sweden has never had a female prime minister. Which is a shame because women make better leaders.

Re: Politics

On the other hand leaving the EU is quite an interesting experiment which I am sure will be followed closely by millions of Euro sceptics in other European lands. Not really being affected by the country leaving it is quite pleasant to sit on the side-line and watch. First Thatcher and now May...wha...

Food at CH

The other day I was telling my children about life at CH and we started talking about the food that was served, and I have found that my memory fails me on this subject. I remember that the amount of food served was adequate, sometimes better sometimes not so good. The one thing that I remember well...

Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff

J.R. seems by speaking his mind 'upset' some people, but that is not his fault in fact it is the education from CH that is at fault! A post of his nearly eleven years ago makes this plain. Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff

Just for the record but in Scandinavia there is the " du" and "ni " where the "ni" is being phased out. In fact one is thought to be somewhat impolite if you use ni.

Re: Fives versus Squash

Personally I enjoyed playing fives rather than squash. It was easier to borrow someones gloves rather than than a raquet that could easily be smashed to bits.
