Re: Freaky returns to Sussex (by the sea)

I’d forgotten that you are a day younger than Peter! Hope you could celebrate.

I think he might agree with your opinion, but for different reasons!

Thank you for that, an interesting life, well lived. I want to know more about her!

Re: Brexit

I had a reminder today why it is useful still having a UK passport. As my 76th birthday is approaching I had the three yearly letter from DVLA asking me to renew my driving licence. I applied online, which needed my UK passport number. Is that sufficient reason to keep the passport? I believe that ...

Re: Strange CH connection with Coronation

Strange, I don’t remember my brother coming home for it! As a five year old I was more interested in my new hair slides, which I was convinced had real diamonds in them, they were so sparkly! So, no real memories of the main event!

Strange CH connection with Coronation

Last night I watched the programme on the tailors preparing for the Coronation, far more interested in the tailoring of the uniforms than anything else. All the special metal buttons are made by a very old company called Firmin & Sons. The name was ringing bells in my head, then I remembered tha...

Re: SIR BARNES WALLIS

I had my mirror for years, never misted up! I also remember him speaking to us in the School Hall about VTOL

He knew my father, but I can’t remember exactly why, except my father was the sort of Old Blue who went out of his way to talk to other OBs.

I think many of us have memories of him. I wrote about one of mine here https://www.chforum.info/php/viewtopic. ... is#p132241

Re: Middleton House Photos

My cousin has just been going through a box of photos that our grandfather had. This must be Mid A, but I don’t know the year, my father, WHP Hills, was born in August 1914 and is third from the left, second row down. Although the school uniform is the same, I don’t think you could mistake it for a ...

Yes, thank you for sharing that. I think Hertford life would have been very different during the war from that I experienced!

Re: Brexit

As I think I've said before, between my wife and I, we've got first hand experience of the working/long-term visa and citizenship processes of UK, Oz, USA, and France, and while they all have their annoyances, the absolute worst, hands-down frustrating and scariest (even for a UK born cit of UK bor...

Re: Brexit

I don’t think anyone will be surprised that we didn’t get a Pakistani passport for the son born there! At that time, 1975, we had to provide our marriage certificate to get him registered as British. He would not have been British had he been illegitimate, I cannot believe that is still the case. Ob...

Re: Brexit

I remain uncertain whether to bother. Both parents were from Ireland - one north, one south so I am technically an Irish (Republic) citizen but not registered as such. Apparently the registration (I have al the documents) can take two years and to get a first republic passport another year. And why...

Re: Brexit

I would strongly recommend you renew your UK one, even though it's likely to take a while. If you're overseas and something happens that you need consular-level help with, a valid passport (or a record of you having one if it gets lost/stolen) will make that much easier to obtain. If you're travell...
