Re: So, the underground tunnels...
The "spur" tunnel which goes under the chapel. The yellow supports were a "bodge job" apparently. The newer bricks support the main Avenue that runs in front of the boarding houses. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s353/MrBounce38/Tube019_zps4a5159cc.jpg Main support joist unde...

Re: The Manual School
Toby are you thinking of Mr Branfield? Think he taught woodwork on our third form then left after a year. He was northern and I don't remember him being particularly tall. He had a really knackered old Triumph Herald which was always falling to bits...

Re: Smoking by CH pupils
Roger Martin regularly smoked a pipe and usually had a puff during the 5 minute break between lessons. One morning he came in having extinguished said pipe and put it in his jacket pocket. Ten minutes later his pocket was producing great plumes of accrid smoke. This was followed by a rather embarras...

Re: Masters' Nicknames
Have just read this thread from start to finish; brilliant! Bob Rae was always known as "Rocker" during my time, and "Mugger" was John Hargreaves the English teacher. Love the fact Fiona Barren was known as "Fiona Fertile" (obvious I suppose). She taught French. As for ...

I don't remember Wyncoll being Australian; I do however remember him having a very high pitched voice. I had him for Woodwork on the 3rd Form - my parents still have the lovely candle holder and chopping board I made for them. He had a habit of stopping the lesson midway through and calling out &quo...

"Ghostbusters", "Meatballs" and "Alligator" were 3 I remember from my time and they were shown in the Theatre. I remember nothing about Meatballs, presumably because I was doing something that I shouldn't have been...

Re: Pocket-Money at CH.
Genuinely can't remember the exact amounts but I seem to remember it being about £30 per term by the end of my time there in 1990. Maths teacher David O'Meara was in charge of pocket money in Maine A during the 4 years I was there and was extremely diligent but fair; he would always allow you to go ...
