Re: Strictly......

Well ---- so Anne W. has, again, survived, due to the "Public Vote" ! We now appear to be in the "John Segeant" situation, where even he, realised that things were getting ridiculous, and resigned. Anne W. has been entertaining, and has acted as a foil to some of the more prissy contestants --- but...

I was in the Lower Fourth, LFG (BSG) to be precise, in 1975/76 and I am sure we weren't the last year to have a fast stream.

Re: Housing Market

This is very good news. I think you were very sensible to acept the offer you did which put you in just the right position to benefit from the falling market with your purchase. My wife and I have just sold our house and are living in rented so we can do the same; we accepted £15k under the asking ...

Re: Mufti

need the corrct kiwi though - you need parade gloss not standard kiwi - they sell both types in waitrose Nope - standard Kiwi gives a better shine. Everyone's technique varies but I swear by a very old, well-washed yellow duster, a little polish, a lot of spit and a very gentle circular motion to b...

Re: Mufti

My son does his boots and mess shoes (and my shoes for a small consideration) with melted Kiwi or Cherry Blossom or what have you. It absolutely has to be Kiwi, Cherry Blossom just doesn't give you the shine. When we arrived at Dartmouth we were directed to go straight to the NAAFI to purchase this...

Re: Baby Food

Bread - crusts are good for teething and bread is easy to hold and stuff into the mouth. We found that baguettes and similar were the best; there is a view that very young chidren shouldn't be given bread but it doesn't seem to do French kids any harm! Whilst chunks or slices without anything on see...

Re: The Pedant's Revolt

It's that time of year for hearing about peoples' holidays! Am I alone in feeling irritated by " Yes! We did Rome... did Naples... did Salerno on our way to Sicily!"? It annoys me. Sure; tell them that you don't understand mericun (or even merkin* if you want to be rude). To "do" a place was origin...

Re: Clocks change

Queensland and The Northern Territory don't practice daylight saving, so at certain times of the year (I can never remember which) Queensland, which is, of course, east of South Australia, is behind us in time. Similarly, travelling north froim Adelaide requires a time change. Then there's Tweed He...

Not strictly in line with the thread since there is an internet link: However check out the name of the author bearing in mind the subject matter http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article7065824.ece One of those "shouldn't laugh but" moments. Re: Chief Bradley

I attended Chief's funeral at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium earlier today. Bob Rae and Morton Peto were also there as was Mr Peto's son James who left in 1977. The Chaplain who gave the eulogy did not know him personally but is the Chaplain to the local RNA so maintained a bit of a Naval connect...
