Re: Does anyone on this forum go to church?

I recently attended a funeral in Salisbury Cathedral, a particularly sad event as the deceased was only in her mid 40's and only a few weeks ago had been given a good five years to live. I have to say it was one of the strangest and the most camp thingsI have ever witnessed, anywhere. Although the s...

Re: CH food

I don't remember any topping on the sausage 'hotpot', but weren't there a lot of tinned tomatoes in it ? Yes those anaemic sausages.. we used to giggle about what they reminded us of! It wasn't an unpleasant meal until we thought of that ..Somehow I connect this meal with Wednesdays. Tuesdays...

Re: Current reading matter

I have just purchased 'Vespasian Tribune of Rome' by Rob Fabbri (CH 70s I think) as advertised in the CH Newsletter. £3.99 including postage from Amazon. Hopefully I'll find the time to read it soon as it looks to be an enjoyable read.

Re: That date rings a bell....

Oops just missed it - 17 Sep 73, 38 years ago yesterday I arrived at Christ's Hospital. Seven years later I joined the Royal Navy and one year after that I went off to college, both also on 17 Sep.

Re: Jokes, please.....

THE MUM TEST (probably posted before but I thought it was funny - sent to me by my wife obviously)! I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter. She picked up something off of the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. 'Why?' my dau...

Re: British --and other Forces

Maybe they are, so in that case, let them go and theorise in a country where their religion is the main religion. Remember, Her Gracious Majesty is the Queen of this country, as well as the Head of the Church of England. Not Moslem, not Catholic, not Jewish, etc., etc., etc. I'm sorry, but I dislik...

Re: What Funerary Arrangements Would You Want?

Spoonbill - I think you are a man after my own heart! You can place a boulder on me, if you want to mark the spot! There is a ranch here in the US (?Texas? I think) - where they take corpses and bury them in random places for forensic study. I have considered donating my body for that. My take is -...

Re: NEW BOOK - OLD BLUES WHO DIED IN WW2

How odd! There are a number of plaques in or near the chapel to Old Blues who certainly did not die in action. My daughter's governor on behalf of the BSB, Doreen Martin, had a son who was a pupil at CH but died suddenly during the school holidays of an undetected heart defect - he certainly had a ...

Re: Uniform

RMS PLATES It used to be the custom that Grecians did not wear plates. The first example I can find of them being worn is a photo of "School Grecians/House Captains 1959-60" in which Twitchin and Riches wear their RAF Foundationer's plates. There were complicated historical reasons why boys of the ...

Bottom left - looks like Ron Lorimer praying in chapel; it's a bit hard to tell but it could be before he grew his beard.

Re: Interesting or funny links

It is just as well that there is no image available; can you imagine how they could have mangled that?! Surely this has been translated by a computer with an ignorant programmer? It might be fun some time to sit down and try to work out what it really means ............. but, maybe not! Try: An ass...
