Re: Phone boxes

I developed all sorts of mad ways of answering it to get the caller of the phone sharp, form answering "hugh, pugh, barney Mrcrue, cuthbert, dibble and grump - trumpton firestation here, what is your emergency ?" to just answering saying "hello is John there ?" and pretending i was making an outgoin...

Re: Help the newbie!

I first kitted out a 2nd former 9 years ago and then renewed her kit subsequently. Sports kit was fairly rigid in the early days but relaxed as the years went by. She was sporty and in a variety of teams and so used team kit (I never really got my head round that, but I never ended up paying for it...

Re: Should there be a separate sub-forum for the “historic abuse” threads?

Katharine and I were contemporaries at Hertford. Like her I was not aware of anything sexual going on. "Squizzing" was a bit bizarre. There was a fair bit of downright unkindness by house staff. Teaching staff hadn't a clue what was going on outside the classroom as far as I could tell. For me the ...

Very slightly off topic, but last night I watched a TV programme, 'Inside The Court of Appeal'. One of the appeal applicants was a certain Mr. DOBBIE.

Hey-Ho. Keeping the name in the spotlight?
I think it was actually Dobby as in the house elf.
Close enough ! Which house ???

Re: Should there be a separate sub-forum for the “historic abuse” threads?

I quite agree. Julian ??? Yes - as a separate area separate to General Chat - non CH. A suitable title might be " Horsham Historical Abuse" or similar (I haven't heard a peep about this type of abuse at Hertford but if there was some ......) Yes there was abuse at Hertford but it has got rather bur...

Thanks Guys. Pearsall was the dentist.

Digging holes in the road would probably have suited his 'skills' better.

Re: Who Knew What?

Don't get me wrong. I never intended to imply that Dr Scott was a hard inefficient man. At the end of one school term I and a few others were recovering from some bug in the sicker after the rest of school had gone home. We were all put together in one ward with a TV, (rare in the early 1960's), and...

Re: Who Knew What?

So, reading the above posts about Dr Hoskins, I now have to take it that Dr Scott had no such psychiatric experience or knowledge. My personal view of 'Tommy' Scott was, "I can cure illnesses and warts, but I don't do 'personal problems'". Yes - I was a disturbed child at CH at 11 years of age. My f...

Yes I would, I have not been sure whether it would be any use or relevant but if it is, then sure.
I think Richardb could well advise you before making an initial advance.

Re: Data Protection Act

Whilst I appreciate there must be safety guidelines, I had had to struggle with oesteo-arthritis to the surgery to get a new online password before the bank holiday. The receptionist KNEW me. I didn't have photo ID, so I had to make a return journey to get some. A double round trip totalling nearly ...

Re: Dobbie's departure

Let's be careful. We are starting to go round and round in circles. I for one am glad to see Tim back on here and I fully appreciate how traumatic it must be for him. Northern Ireland Catholic children's care homes seems to be the latest abuse stories of today with even Nuns being charged. Oh well, ...

Re: Data Protection Act

I'm totally pi**ed off with it all, especially after trying to get some of MY personal information from the receptionist at MY doctors surgery this afternoon. I think I may now be persona non grata in there now. I wasn't rude. I didn't swear but left them in no doubt about my views of the educationa...
