Re: staff accommodation

Just out of interest, is this staff accomodation 'Grace and Favour ', or are costs deducted from salary ?? Under UK Tax rules you must pay for accommodation which you use. Of course this could be a specific deduction from salary. If you don't then the owner has to pay income tax on the rent which g...

Re: Annoying car man

As to the threatening notes on car windscreens in the lay-by, well if the lay-by is part of the public highway you are presumably entitled to park on it. I would be along to the local police with the notes as evidence to ask whether this constituted threatening behaviour. As JR says, this sounds if...

Re: Dobbie's departure

CofE or the Church of Rome are just as bad as each other - Just look at the Council of Nicaea - a biased cockup from day 1. That was where they banned women and a lot of the Gospels and it was all arranged by the Roman emperor Constantine. This sems to have been the start of the downhill fall endin...

As a person with a highly suspicious mind I'd say there is something rather iffy about this guy's behaviour.
Perhaps there are people (debt collectors, wife 0 whom he hopes will never find out about his 4 x 4 and think he is nearly bust.

Re: Dobbie's departure

So Dobbie was not an employee of CH? He was an employee of the CoE? Who paid his salary? Who pays his pension? I have mentioned this before; there are such people as prebendary curates who are full priests though not in posts appointed by a bishop.. They are paid by "someone" to carry out church ty...

Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

In Col A Kit survived my 7 years, Corks (Rev Cochrane) about 7 followed by Herbert and Potts , the two at almost the same time. I understand that Potts may have only done two years at CH though he gave no suggestion of being a moral problem.

Re: Address to the Governing Council help please

...saying that the police and probably wouldn't have wanted to be involved. ...is wrong if you ask me. Raping/molesting/'whatever you want to call it' children was not something the school should have been abetting and hiding. I am sure that the police would prefer to be told about such things - an...

Re: Address to the Governing Council help please

As to questions. I'd like to know what the school proposes to do to provide the very best professional help for the victims. I'd also like to be assured that the same help will be extended to victims in cases that haven't come to court, either because the perpetrators have died or the CPS did not f...

Re: Phone boxes

We have device that learns spam numbers and blocks them (including entire county and area codes) My understanding is that these spam companies have phone diallers which give themselves random numbers, call and if someone answers puts a computer tape or human on the line but if no human operator is ...

Re: Phone boxes

I developed all sorts of mad ways of answering it to get the caller of the phone sharp, form answering "hugh, pugh, barney Mrcrue, cuthbert, dibble and grump - trumpton firestation here, what is your emergency ?" to just answering saying "hello is John there ?" and pretending i was making an outgoin...

Re: CH and flu

There was a severe outbreak in1957 - no vaccines then. I did not catch it and remember helping in the infirmary. Several houses were used for emergency beds. Can anyone shed any more information about this? My memory is poor. Er yes, because I apparently started it. Anyway, at the time that's what ...

Let's be positive

With all the misery stemming from the actions of a minority of teachers it does appear that the present guidance of Housey is attempting to not only deal with the injuries of the past but to guide the school into the future. The Forum's readership extends from those close to their eighties down to t...

Re: Data Protection Act

That's odd. An adoption certificate is one of the documents listed as a "group 1 primary identity document" under the ID checks required for a basic check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. So for example, passport plus adoption cert and driving licence photocard would be enough (and there a re...

I don’t remember any phones. On the other hand no family had a phone at home, so it was no loss.
My mother's employers had one; it was number 8. I don't remember it ever being used

Re: Who Knew What?

...Dr Scott had no such psychiatric experience or knowledge. My personal view of 'Tommy' Scott was, "I can cure illnesses and warts, but I don't do 'personal problems'"... "You have personal problems ? Then sort them out yourself !" That was CH in the late 1950's. Imagine being the ONE person havin...
