Re: Dobbie's departure

I agree, and i think that's part of the assurance needed from the school; -have the police been notified of all teachers who were moved on from the school in response to abuse allegations? This is the single biggest question which they should answer now, to reassure Old Blues and others of their PR...

Re: Letter to the Head Master

Just for the record: I would be vehemently against any concerted action concerned with alleged misbehaviour by members of staff now dead. The obvious reason is that they cannot now defend themselves, and, the corollary, the accusers would not be required to get their evidence together properly (if ...

Re: Will Dobbie be defrocked?

I wonder what the French will feel about letting him to back to "Albi" his current registered address I believe?
Particularly after Brexit, depending on what their immigration rules about sex-offenders entering the country?

Re: Explanation of the 'Tube'

The original purpose of the tube AFAIK was mainly for the services - has, electric, etc rather than for keeping kids out of the rain. Very logical, as avoided ever needing to dig up the roads etc to lay phone lines, do repairs etc

Re: Did monitors have any real use?

Definitely a different view, and can see your point. I guess it depends on how you felt about it, and what you took from it. On the whole, seemed broadly ok in my time - but I’m sure I was over-zealous on occasion, and know I was also on the rough end of bullying and nastiness in Leigh Hunt - not al...

Re: Did monitors have any real use?

Clearly the matter would be reported, but we monitors had to decide what to do overnight to reassure the victims. Interesting that you as a child knew instinctively it should be "reported" to someone in authority.... and yet some staff, from what we've heard from the trials, did not instinctively f...

Re: Did monitors have any real use?

I think the hierarchy and monitor system was overall a good thing, with the main aspect being the aspiration to achieve and gain a position of authority, and the recognition of achievement which being a school/house monitor provided. I think it probably formed the foundations of wanting to progress ...

Re: Explanation of the 'Tube'

I explored most of the tube in my time at CH, including the Infirmary branch, and the little-side branch to the swimming pool. Also under chapel, with a trap-door under the organist's seat, Big School (entrance under the stage, and in the back room I think), and under the HM's house. We stumbled upo...

Bizarrely, when registering the death, I met Webmaster Julian Taylor's mum who was there as a counsellor. Didn't know you'd met, it's a small world! Mum volunteers for Coroner Court Support at Southwark Coroners' Court, and occasionally other Coroner Courts, as well as volunteering at St. Christoph...
