It's difficult to say with Boris who now resembles a barrage balloon that has been shot at and fallen to earth in a heap. [/quote]

Re: Back

I don't mind at all - yes! New Bloke from Stowe. We've been to several Old Stoic things, and walked all around the very beautiful grounds. I was so struck by how the old Stoics - well, all the guys I chatted to anyway - had absolutely loved their schooldays. I didn't hear one difficult memory. Nothi...

Re: Back

Thank you - how nice of you! Now a divorcée - really strange - post divorce, which (thanks to a very kind and helpful solicitor) went far more smoothly than anticipated, I find that I rather like my ex husband, and quite look forward to seeing him. H's happier single and likes my new partner, whom m...

Re: Back

I just thought I'd have a look at the Forum - I'm usually communicating frequently with the girls' Facebook page. But it was very nice to see your name.

How are you? Are you finished with your studies now? Did you get married?

Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

So, Jo, there was an announcement of Eileen's death in The Blue, but no details or obituary? Several of us have contributed a few memories on the Facebook CH Ladies page, but it doesn't sound as if Eileen kept in touch with school friends. It doesn't sound as if she had married... family? I should b...

Re: Quick questions and (maybe) answers Hertford Memories thread

Eileen Downing has died? She was one of the several very clever girls in our year. I remember her so well - fluent from the first in French and German, but also the star of Miss Blench's Latin. Always quiet and obviously gifted. I always supposed she must have gone on to a brilliant academic career.

Re: Where have all the ladies gone?

Fun, and vibrant communication between all the girls on Facebook. Where there are loads of pictures of us all! And who understands those traumatic Hertford experiences as well as Old Girls? A great sense of survival. No matter what age, the régime was much the same for all of us behind those gates a...

Re: End of term

I can still remember the terrible fear of my hat coming off and hair lice jumping from the upholstery of the train seat at the start of term (not sure now if this is a possible source of infestation). Anyone who arrived back at school with hair lice would be told that she MUST have taken her hat off...

Re: General Election: Old Blue candidates

Sir Oswald Mosley has the unique distinction of being the only person to have had King George V and Adolf Hitler as guests at his first and second weddings. And what a wonderful wedding present the Fuhrer gave Sir Oswald and Lady Mosley - a signed photograph of himself, with the monogram AH surmoun...

Re: General Election: Old Blue candidates

Michael - Mosley interned on the Isle of Man? I believe that he was arrested under Defence Regulation 18b and went straight into Brixton Prison, along with many of the Italian waiters who had staffed the most famous restaurants in London. Diana Mosley was detained shortly afterwards in Holloway. Eve...

Re: When You're A Ghost, Which Parts of CH Will You Haunt And Why?

Back at Hertford - I always felt the most atmospheric place was the gound floor of the Science Block but it's gone now! But then the very old houses called "Nines" have great haunting potential. It's probably a happy wholesome place now. No, I'm choosing the passage that led to the Ante Ro...
