Re: Politics

I live in Plaid Cymru territory, I think it will stay the same for a long time. Perhaps this is the price you must pay for living in one of the most beautiful places in the British Isles? True! I do have a lot of time for Liz Savile Roberts as a constituency MP. A couple of years ago I had to arran...

Re: Politics

I agree with everything in your last post Tim. My sons went to boarding school because my husband worked for the British Council and we could be moved at short notice somewhere where there was no English medium education. As to deselection of MPs, the constituency parties surely make the decisions? ...

Re: Politics

David, I agree there was a Referendum and that there was a small majority of those who voted voted Leave. Is there any way of deciding whether they meant Leave on current ideas? Would they have voted differently had they known? I can see nothing wrong in having a second referendum on the lines of Th...

Re: Politics

I’ve been surprised not to see any comments from Freaky on the shenanigans of the last few weeks. I don’t think anyone can be happy about the way things are going. Personally, I can’t see anything wrong with the backstop and would far rather have that and a deal than to crash out without a deal. Did...

Re: Vikki Askew

As some here know, we lived in Sarawak from 1991 to 96, Gordon Van Praagh was still remembered with affection by many we met. Does anyone know his dates there?

Re: Does anyone know the school latin motto?

Welcome Kate from someone with a name very close to yours! Not many of our generation from Hertford post here now, I valiantly fly the flag! I was in the year above Kerren, but in 6s. Certainly Mrs Winstone was there most, if not all, the time I was in Hertford. In 6s we were supposed to learn the f...

Re: CH fundraising - a bit of a rant

I have had similar thoughts, myself. My thoughts should possibly be read in the context that I am a committed speaker for the charity WaterAid, passionate about increasing access to schooling for girls around the world, and passionate about their having proper provision for coping with periods so th...

I was in touch with him during Petition 1552, we discussed Sarawak where he had served. His experiences of VSO were very different from mine, but both left lasting memories!

Re: Matrons

Matrons seem to have come from the same stock as our Housemistresses. Remember, our were NOT teachers, they were very definitely second class citizens in the staff hierarchy. Did your matrons have responsibility for your uniform and overseeing laundry? Ours lived in just two rooms in the boarding ho...

Re: Resignation of Baker and emergency appointment of Hansford

Thank you Robert, for coming to tell us about it, I am sure that many of us have been thinking about you and wondering how it went. I could say trite things such as hoping the experience has been a healing process and that you will be able to move on, but that would be wholly inappropriate. What I s...

Re: Teaching staff

I did Maths A level in the mid 60s, (for obvious reasons can't say I was a Maths Grecian!) and there was never any mention of computing as a career. I don't think it was seen as 'real' mathematics. It was seen as a tool, just as log tables were. All praise to Mr Bullard for taking you. Leo is well k...
