Leavers Day

The Charge feels so familiar although I can't say I've thought about it in 20 years. I left at the end of my 5th form in '84 and the schools merged the year later. It must have been quite a Leavers Day in 1985. I loved being at boarding school (wierdo) and thought it was all very Enid Blyton - and t...

Uniform

Not yet, but the more threads I read, the more comes back to me. I guess we must have had something warmer than the cherry reds for the winter. But then I don't remember hot breakfasts either!! (Too much wine for the brain cells).

BA's and GA's

I've just worked out what the BA's and GA's of the previous posting are all about - Black Aprons and Green Aprons - instead of those blue overalls that everyone else wore to dinner. Forgotten all about them!

Bushmen of the Kalahari

It's coming back to me slowly - I think it was an Irish teacher....She had a whole load of other topics along these lines but I can't remember them. It might have been RE which seems odd now but that is what rings a bell, because it seemed odd then too, to be learning about other cultures in a relig...

Marching band

Yep, I remember the Leavers Day shinanigans - seems they were very similar in my day and very annoying too until it was our turn of course!

Noyes Floode

I played the timpani and cymbals - got to do the thunder and lightening - my crowning moment in the orchestra!! Must have been 1982, '83 or '84 coz I left Summer '84 and I must have been 14 or older. My music teacher was hovering in the background terrified that I'd crash the symbols at the wrong pl...

Geography

Anyway, going back to the thread.... Who did the Bushmen of the Kalahari? Vonny might know - seems to have been a standard topic. Was that Geography? I don't remember it being Miss Wilson going on about them and I'm pretty sure it was a classroom in the main block. Can't think of what class they wou...

Ashbourne

I remember Sports Day up at Ashbourne, and the weekly walk up there running the gauntlet of the local kids waiting for their buses to go home. We used to have cricket practice at the main school on a Thursday evening. It meant getting out of prep, and ran from 6pm to 7pm. That meant you were back in...

Breakfast

I don't remember hot breakfasts (1979 - 84) but that doesn't mean they didn't happen. I remember regularly eating four shredded wheat coz others in 7 didn't like them, and thinking that the advert was a load of rubbish (Can you eat......). I also remember appalling pork chops, cooked in a baking tra...

Teachers

I don't remember Miss Tucker and Miss Morrison as being particularly hideous, but maybe I was a girly swot! I know Miss Tucker is responsible for me not taking up smoking - fear of God of being called to see her! [Edited for content - JT] And we had Miss Jukes for cookery, reading some of the other ...

Hertford Uniform

New subscriber - and reading with great nostalgia! I'm with Vonny (being 37 and there at the same time), Cherry red blazers over blue tunics on Sundays, grey tunic in the winter of which I have a great photo of me looking like I think I'm the bee's knees plus pink and black striped tie for House 7. ...
