Re: Transcripts

P P de W Burr without his spectacles, 1969 https://vgy.me/IuqPwk.jpg The blonde boy to his right / our left looks incredibly uncomfortable. A very good friend of mine with whom I am still in contact. He was (is) very 'handy' as they say in boxing parlance and had Burr tried it on with him he would,...

Re: Transcripts

This probably goes without saying, but in a way it also comes as a shock to think that Burr was only in his twenties when all of this was going on. One wonders whether he interfered with his fellow pupils when he himself was at school just a few years earlier, then carried the habit over to CH as h...

Re: Management knowledge of the Husband/Dobbie cases

Getting involved in the semantics of 'management' is just another indirect way of justifying lack of support to the victims at the time the crimes were perpetrated. One indisputable FACT is that an abused child reported a rape to a chaplain and that was ignored. It is utterly indefensible that the c...

Re: The hearing

According to Sussex Police he is now 68 https://www.sussex.police.uk/news/former-horsham-public-school-teacher-given-17-year-sentence-for-sex-offences-against-pupil/ From reading Jim's link above some of that "17 years" is to be served concurrently. The 'real' sentence is 12 1/2 years from what I c...

Re: CH response when reporting abuse - experience of others?

I'd also like to add, PLEASE don't let the poor experience above prevent anyone from coming forward if you've something to report - you will be listened to by others, and hopefully you can see that the groundswell of opinion is one of support. These things HAVE to be exposed, particularly where oth...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse

Surely a member of the clergy would have a highly developed sense of right and wrong and wouldn't need to be told what to do, irrespective of the cost to them personally? Absolutely right. The only possible exceptions might be confession or where a plea for confidentiality has been made by the conf...

Re: Why Do OBs Not Field a Team in the Arthurian League?

Bob Hailey was in charge of soccer in the 70s and I remember Ken Grimshaw being of a similar mind. Bob Hailey single handedly flew the Association Football (soccer) flag during the sixties and early seventies. I left in 1972 and there were no School teams and fixtures back then although Bob Hailey ...

Re: Should the forum be behind a registration wall?

In my view absolutely 'NO' for reading only. It is already necessary to register or log in to post. There maybe a case for having something like the little 'exam' the OB facebook group do before allowing posting as well as protection against trolls, bots etc or whatever the modern terminology is.

Re: Why Do OBs Not Field a Team in the Arthurian League?

Representatives of OBAFC have posted on the forum previously so perhaps they will again in answer to your question. However to the best of my (very limited) knowledge OBAFC participates in the Southern Amateur League and runs three teams. The Club has only been in existence since 2011. http://www.so...

I think this thread epitomises why the forum should remain open.

Everyone should be able to read this without needing to register.
In the context of your comment on another thread: 'LIKE'

EDIT: Now thanked!

I have already made initial contact with the BSB (with her permission) - hopefully there’ll be some way they can help, and i think all old Blues would be in full support of doing whatever we can to help.
Absolutely right.

Re: A post on behalf of one of the Dobbie/Husband victims

Thank you for posting this Julian.

Given the financial nature of some of the content perhaps The Benevolent Society of Blues can assist if it is not already?

I cannot think of a more deserving person myself.

I was a pupil at the time but must confess to having no recollection whatsoever of this concert.

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS

LHA is not wrong in his last comment. The point is that the transformation of the ring fence into a "ring of steel" is symptomatic of the wider safeguarding revolution that will have taken place at CH, as at all schools. I'll give some examples from my current school which will hopefully reassure r...

Re: I am returning my Bible...

When did the begging letter go in there? My guess is that he is referring to 'The Charge.' These cases are disturbing to all and even more so if the victims are known to you and one's response will be governed accordingly. I would not presume how to tell anyone else how to react. However, in an adm...
