Re: Christ's Hospital Singers LP
I think I recognise Julian Berkeley, Clive Whitehead, Quintin Brown and Bill Biddell. Not sure about the spelling of some of them.

Re: CH and slavery
A bit radical. Do you support schools with a history of slave money and child molesting? I don't think you should tar the school for the actions of a tiny minority or boycott a newspaper for letting one cartoon slip through the net (it was later removed with an apology).

Re: Just a coincidence?
Here’s one. My brother was born in a hospital in Malta as our dad was in the Navy and was posted there. Well, 25 years later, living in southwest England he met a girl and they started going out. It turned out that she had been born the same week in the same hospital as him as her circumstances were...

Middle row, numbers 2 and 3 are Andy Quest and Derek Cuff, I think.

Re: Bring back proper rugby
I’m with you on this one Freaky. What is the point of a scrum if you can more or less put the ball in to your second row??? As an ex Thorn B scrum half, I just don’t get it.

They were called bog mags back in my day (late 70s). Someone brought one over from Scandinavia. We'd never seen anything like it in our lives. Almost too much for us hot-blooded teenagers.

Stature metaphorically speaking maybe. Newsome was small and well, toadlike.

Re: David Newsome
I had one year with Seaman, the rest with Newsome as head. He was known as The Toad and gave out plenty of canings (as did many teachers in that era, so is not really a criticism. For that see plenty of posts on Sillett and his infamous tangents). I have no idea why he moved on to Wellington after n...

Re: Another St Matthews Day photo 1972 ?
I recognise Bill Biddell (who played rugby in the Varsity match) and Colin Nesbeth, the only black boy in the photo. The whole school trip to Westminster Abbey was summer term 1973, I believe.

Re: Telegraph article: Pupils at prestigious public school will receive lessons in 'white privilege'
Sejintenej, you've got your verbs mixed up in Spanish. Tengo calor is the perfect way to say you are hot, it's too warm, you feel hot. However, a direct translation from the English I am hot would be estoy caliente which would imply you've got the hots, you are sexually attracted. So, that's probabl...

Re: Puke Fight!
AMP- you were punched in the face repeatedly until the House Captain broke his wrist??? What??? Sounds like Nazi Germany or a Gulag rather than a school in Sussex in the 90s! Your face must have been a bl**dy mess by the time he broke his wrist. What did matron, other masters, less sadistic monitors...

Re: Ken Grimshaw
Just come across this thread. I remember Mr Grimshaw as a young man in the 70s. I was useless at manual work but managed to make a cross in metalwork and a lamp in woodwork which I still have. I notice that two of the teachers were a Mr Perry and Mr Wyncoll (Periwinkle).

Re: Dorm Raids
If I remember correctly, in the 70s (and presumably before and maybe after) they weren't pillows, they were bolsters. Now that must have hurt .
