Re: All this is incredibly sad

The houses are visited on a random basis by an SLT member on virtually every night of the week. It's reassuring to know that this happens now, but it certainly was not happening as recently as the early-mid 1990's. Poulton visited Maine B once while I was there, the only time I ever spoke to him, a...

Re: REMOVAL OF CHOBA MEMBERSHIP

I do not seem to be making myself clear. This thread (which I started, by the way) is about removing membership from CHOBA members who were involved in child abuse at the school. As far as I am aware, this woman is not a member of CHOBA and was not involved in any way with child abuse at C.H. Yes, ...

Re: REMOVAL OF CHOBA MEMBERSHIP

Passing comments on Mr Sillett is fair enough, but mud-slinging at his daughter is not. This forum is about C.H., Old Blues and the teaching staff. So, whatever this woman has done is of NO concern to us, even if she spent a very short time at C.H. I suggest that a degree of moderation is required....

Re: REMOVAL OF CHOBA MEMBERSHIP

I posted this as Sillett is silent about the decades of abuse at CH, and his continuing positioning of himself as a respectable, establishment figure, with his gong from the palace etc. Tanya Sillett also briefly taught at CH, no doubt offered the position due to being Sillett's daughter.

Re: REMOVAL OF CHOBA MEMBERSHIP

The trial previously heard from an alleged victim who said housemaster Bob Sillett, a senior staff member, implied she would risk being named in the press if the school dealt with Mr Karim "publicly". She said: "There was the implication that my name might be published." I find it hard to believe t...

Re: Why a teacher DOES NOT have to report abuse

I found Ron a dull geography teacher, but a decent enough fellow. I had Lorimer for geography on my squits - he retired the following year I believe - and my abiding memory is of the racist comments constantly made towards my two black classmates. Jeepers. I suppose they are both meant to be 'forev...

Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

I don't recall Housemasters ever moving house before (not sure if he had a gap). I wonder if there was a specific reason for that? Staff moved around a fair bit during my time, as I remember it anyway, not any specific reason as far as I can recall. The Endacott's, Holdsworth's, Flemming's, for exa...

Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

Interesting that he was Housemaster of Lamb B (before Shippen?) and then Maine A (both as senior houses). I don't recall Housemasters ever moving house before (not sure if he had a gap). I wonder if there was a specific reason for that?

Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A

Opening a quick thread to see if anyone remains in contact with Mr Ernest (Ernie?) McCall, if they know how he is doing (maybe reading this?) or otherwise if he is alive etc. He suddenly left the school around 1994 never to be seen again. It is rumoured that he went to teach in schools in Africa.

Re: Roger Martin

'the incident with Mr McCall' McCall got booted for luring boys up to his flat in 93? He'd been doing that for at least a decade prior and nobody seemed to bat an eyelid. I wonder what changed.... Is it known if the person named above is still alive, or not? Perhaps he deserves his own thread.

one to one meetings with Richard Poulton

Reading another post I just remembered that Poulton, in a way at the time which was probably seen as forward looking, used to offer one to one meetings with - I think - any pupil who wanted one. You would go to his study in the morning, or possibly lucchtime - I remember waiting in the rather grand ...

Sentencing of Garry William Dobbie

Any ideas on when this will occur. It is a matter of public record that other allegations are being investigated, and this is the reason for the delay. Although whether it will be delayed until these new matters are concluded is another matter.
