Re: Bluecoat School Photos
The Guuardian has an article today stating that CH was the first English school to have a uniform. Is this correct?

Re: Ian Page
John Page was one of the three Geography Department teachers in the mid-1950s, under the excellent leadership of George Newberry. I know that he later became a housemaster. I recall that his obituary spoke of his prowess in Royal Tennis. From his age alone, he could not have been the footballer Ian ...

+65 reunion, March 2022
For our age group, and In the uncertainty of the Covid context, the proposed reunion next March provokes several questions which I have put to the Choba staff and await a reply. Anyone guess likely attendance numbers? Will any fellow Thornton A house-members, history and geography classmates, rugger...

Re: Meaning of colored walls
These descriptions of housemasters seem correct - my recollection of Haslehust is that he delegated discipline to the house monitors and, unlike others, did not impose his views on the house - but whether their attitudes were reflected in those of the house members seems doubtful, and hard to determ...

Re: CCF alternative
By the mid-1950s It was apparent to me from talking to leavers who were doing National Service, that the CCF did not provide useful training, for the reasons indicated here by Brian Walling. After expressing my discontent - not pacifism - I was moved to the Signals section about 1954, and later char...

Re: RIP Jasper Griffin
Sad to hear of Jasper Griffin's passing - he was easily acknowledged as the foremost scholar of our year, at least on the arts side. His subsequent stellar career was a source of great pride for us his contemporaries. While his Oxford lectures and his books may not perhaps have reached a wider audie...

Re: Michael Cherniavsky
Very belatedly, I want to add applause for Geoff Cannon's appreciation of Michael Cherniavsky. His medieval history classes were brilliant, and his coaching in essay writing provided skills of lifelong value. And I can now treasure the thought that, unknown to the other, we were both at Trafalgar Sq...

Re: Chapel Music
I have sentimental memories of Sunday evensong in Chapel - perhaps because it followed those Sunday afternoon breaks - and particularly of the Nunc Dimittis. Does anyone know which music was used (mid-1950s)?
