Re: Hertford - proscribed reading
Well. This is going seriously off the subject. I am not on Face Book - My children (Alexander, 26, Fergus, 24, Ivo, 21) have banned me - they think I would find out all the horrible things they do.... I find out anyway, and happen to know that Ivo went to a party recently (Edinburgh student) dressed...

Re: Hertford - proscribed reading
Yes, yes, Hiawatha - of course of course, Mine haha forever by the running water and the might Gitche Goome, or something like that. And the Rape of the Lock. And the Wasteland, T S Elliot. And I certainly remember 'Brazilian Adventure' - can even see in my mind's eye the front of the paperback cove...

Re: Bags I Read that After You!
Seizing the end of this thread.... it suddenly comes back to me. Jalna was very popular, but not so much in 2's. But do you remember the 'Angelique' series? Rather more saucy - a bit like a bosomy blonde Flashman I suppose. Again a nice series of books to plough through. The 2's library (yes, I'm a ...

Re: Hertford - proscribed reading
Referred by Angela Woodford to her thread 'BAgs I....' Started in 2006. I only had to read her first one. 'Katherine' - of course, and she got the correct spelling. AND -there it was, the name of the other 'proscribed' brown paper wrapper that I couldn't recall.... Passion Flower HOtel.... of COURSE...

Re: Hertford - proscribed reading
How very stupid of me, rattling a post too fast. Mea culpa.... and of course that it is quite another subject. I can imagine absolutely that 'Les amities particulieres' would have been proscribed at Housey - although we always loved 'La nature du Prince' - so sweetly translated as 'The Prince's Pers...

Hertford - proscribed reading
I came across my copy of 'Bran the Bronzesmith' the other day - read in English lessons in the 3's at Hertford, 1965. Can anyone remember what we were 'officially' reading, year on year? - (and perhaps what we were not...I remember a hardback copy of 'Reach for the Sky' by Paul Brickhill, in the 2's...

Re: Housemistresses
Nothing, but NOTHING got past Fanny, certainly not a rogue hairdryer. She smoked like a chimney too, but I think she stopped after her op when she came back a much calmer person. Obviously I didn't realise the extreme strictness of Fanny! Although now, something comes back to me! I met Sarah Titcom...

Re: Fiona Toplis
I came across some wonderful paintings of the Isle of Sark, by William Toplis, 1857-1952. Absolutely marvellous! I'm new to this -first time I have ever been on a forum at all, so I am practising, and came across this forum quite by chance after finding a diary of my school days, 1968. We have six ...
