Re: Anxious parents

CHdad, in our experience we have been through several 'normals' with our son. Throughout the first year he couldn't wait to get back to school after each leave - we felt quite cast aside. Then through the next 18 months he got dreadful homesickness for the first 24-48 hours back sending sad texts an...

Re: Anxious parents

To CHdad and all the other new parents the above 3 posts really sum up how it is to be a CH parent - 3 weeks missing them, recieving minimal contact from them, a leave that goes in flash, a day or 2 of settling back (more difficult for the parents than the pupil) then the cycle starts again... Trust...

Re: rugby socks

Try the thrift shop at CH - we've had most sports kit from there over the years, and donated it back when out grown . We took in some enormous socks about a year ago when we realised he'd never grow into them!

Re: Helpful Tips for New Parents please!!!

I agree the first 3 weeks are hell for the parents (mums more than dads of course) but it works. I can't believe there are parents who would provide secret phones and undermine the school and from day one too. If they are that unsure why they heck did they accept the place? I can't imagine leaving m...

Re: "University of Housey"

Any idea that utilises and brings in income from the buildings and estate must be a good one and this one being linked to education seems ideal - as long as they can ensure better security. Never once have we been stopped or challenged when driving past the lone barrier.

Re: Leavers and fees

Just found this quote from Mr Franklin speaking at the U.S. Friends of CH and printed in their newsletter November 2009 to which he'd been accompanied by David Cooke "In a final Q&A, the Head Master announced that up to 92 new full fee students would be carefully phased in over the next fiv...

Thrifty tips

I've been heartened and supported by the many private messages and e-mails following posts in 'Leaver and fees' and earlier similar threads e.g.'are we alone? One of the strongest themes is how much us parents deny ourselves to pay the fees and I thought I'd try starting a new thread to share these ...

Re: Day Pupils.

As one of the parents who's child is being forced out due to 18% per year rises. I am incredibly angry at even the thought of day pupils, one assumes they'd be full fee paying or else where is the logic? Why turn away a child used to the school , who underwent all the entry criteria, who was deemed ...

Re: Current reading matter

Testimony by Anita Shreve. I've just read this novel about a (ficticious) scandalous incident at an American boarding school and would love to read other CH parents and Old Blues views of the book and it's themes. At first I wasn't sure if I could finish the book as the story feels very close to hom...

Re: Leavers and fees

Sorry should have said 'next letter to The Foundation'

I have no complaint regarding the School, i.e. teachers, staff, education and care. It's just difficult when using same name and address to know who one is writing to.

Re: Leavers and fees

If we are just expected to hand over our children, cough up an undisputed (and ever increasing disproportionate) sum of money and then step back and let the school take control, that sounds rather as though we are selling our children! Do we really abdicate all responsibility when we accept the off...

Re: Leavers and fees

I'd just like to make it clear that what we are unhappy about are the disproportionate rises in fees that seem to only affect families as they reach some hidden levels of charge imposed by the Foundation. We are totally in favour of equitable means testing and of each family paying a proportionate r...

Leavers and fees

I am hearing stories of numbers of pupils leaving because of disproportionate rises in the fees. We are seriously thinking of having to remove our DS for the same reason. After 5 years our savings are exhausted and our income rose only in line with inflation yet our fees have doubled since DS starte...

Re: Does anybody know when the results will be posted after the

To all you hopefulls, believe me the anxiety of waiting for entry results is nothing compared to the anxious and heartbreaking first 3 weeks they are at CH. No direct contact except via house staff works great for the kids but is hell on the Mums left at home. Get through that and you can cope with ...
