It just means new boy/girl. I imagine ,though I don't know why, it has something to with being small.Like Tich or Half Pint and other endearments for junior new people .I don't at all think it's meant to be anything else.The older pupils get the less they use the term.

It's opened for the Lord Mayor to drive through it if I have the correct gate. It is always locked when I normally drive to the school but I happened to be behind the Lord Mayor driving to the school on Speech Day and saw his car drive through the gate.
