Re: Twins
John and David Hampson in Maine 84-91 - looked totally different to each other. I vaguely also remember Mat and Michael Harvey who left in I think 1984 ish. Can't remember if they were both school monitors? They really did look identical. Apart from Charlotte and Emily Jewsbury I can't think of any...

Re: Richard Trenchard (PeB 1978-1984)
I am in contact with Richard (a PeB contemporary and fellow Himalayan expedition member) and he is doing fine after a jittery start. He loves these difficult zones having also served in Somalia.

Re: Charles Hazlewood
There were a number of very talented music scholars at that time. Chris Tambling, Charles, Adrian Bawtree. But the most talented was Piers Maxim, whom you have probably never heard of. His interest was and remains church music, so was never going to be mainstream. On my final day, Jeffers told the ...

Traditionally School Monitors read the Grace during my time (1978-1984). BUT when someone got academic buttons, it was a tradition that they would read Grace once....

Re: GRACE
Thanks Katherine. Indeed the first seems spot on but the reference to the Royal Family in after meals seems odd and I dot recall it.

Re: RIP Tom Jeffers 1944-2020
Tom Jeffers was my A level German teacher for two years in middle 80s and was a wonderful schoolmaster. His physical presence and mop of grey hair made him stand out in any crowd. He was inspiring, cultured and just a great member of the CH community. I was in PeB when he was PeA housemaster but oft...

Oh wow this is weird as I thought he was still in prison in UK.
He must have been let out early?

Re: What were your thoughts about the theatre?
It was a great palce. i was at CH from 1978-1984 and perhaps witnessed the wonder years of Duncan Noel-Patton productions. I even acted in 3 myself. It was indeed a massive stage and depsite the awful red benches and red surroundings, the quality of the performances on stage soon put to rest any pos...

Very sad indeed. I overlapped at university with his son, Tom. Dennis was on my interview committee for the Morehead Scholarship in 1983. I still have his personal congratulory letter. He was Warden at Radlet for 23 years and one of the best and most repsected Heads of his era. https://www.radley.or...

Re: Do You Tell People That You Went To Public School?
I live in France and so rarely do people understand the concept of boarding as over here un internat is Monday to Friday and for kids that seem to struggle in public system and need monitoring. There is also complete incomprehension as to why parents don't wnat to be around their kids for 8 months a...

RIP P T FARRAR
I saw in the Old Blue that Peter Farrar (Head of Modern Langauges) has died. He was my AO and A level teacher for three years and though he was a wonderful linguist, his sense of timing was not great and lessons were inevitably shorter. He would often be having a coffee in the Language lab and then ...

Re: A letter from the CHOBA board
There are indeed a lot of coincidences and I found the photo in the press article that I posted to be very very like the Revd Porteous I knew at CH.
The Thailand connection is also unsettling but if truth were to be said if nothing has come out from CH days, then it may indeed be a different person.
