Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse
You could contact the journalist. Standards of reporting are so low that articles often raise more questions than they answer. As to journos, nothing in the meeja of which I have close private knowledge has ever been 100% correct. Journos are generalists and I suspect get rung up at no notice and t...

Re: Christ's Hospital / The Church of England / Child Abuse
Richardb can perhaps put me right on this, but my thought is that Callaghan 'reformed' the law by making its wording more demotic (= dumbing it down). Out went the ancient and clearly defined Common Law words 'misdemeanour' and 'felony'. Out with the felony bath water went the 'misprision of felony'...

Re: CH and the Armed Services
Revisiting this thread after a number of years, I remembered that (the then) Sq Ldr John Morgan gets a couple of mentions in 'Phoenix Squadron' by Rowland white (2009) as navigator of a Canberra PR9 involved in the British Honduras crisis of 1972 in which Guatemala schemed to invade and take over. T...

Here and in several other threads I would like to thank Richardb for all the patient explanations he has given us throughout this process, and for making that long journey so as to give us an informed picture of what happened. Thank you Richard, your work on the is much appreciated.

This thread seem to have the most on the Australian Mackerras but mods etc please feel free to move this post somewhere else if you wish. I vaguely remember being in his French class at some time. This was back in the day when June Whitfield was young and a photo of her doing a star jump dressed in ...

At what point do questions get asked (let alone answered) about what reference Shrewsbury received regarding Dobbie and who at CH signed it off?
One hopes for truly deterrent sentences but no doubt there will be special pleading for the criminals.

Personally I far preferred to learn facts by rote. I have always been poor at practical things and one experiment taught me that the Specific Heat of water was 1.5. Goodness knows how I scraped my A-level Physics Practical.

Re: Death on a roller
I and another, being finally determined to be no good at cricket, were deputed to go out early and mark the house pitches. This gave us, both by then Deputy Grecians, the afternoon to spend in more worthwhile intellectual pursuits than idly watching grass grow to no purpose whatsoever. After two yea...

Re: Sentence of Peter Webb referred to Court of Appeal
The disclosure thing: the prudent employer does not provide any sort of reference at all, only a statement that so and so was employed between this and that date. It must be obvious that paedophiles will seek employment that gives them access to their prey. One defence against this must be that the ...

Nowadays - last year there were two sorts of jab, the NHS trivalent one and a quadrivalent that allegedly protected against the type of flu that was going to lay the country waste this year. This coming winter the quad will be available on the NHS but NOT to OAPs - my GP says he will not be reimburs...

PS A couple of years ago I took a tour of the Mansion House - the whole scene was eerily familiar, including how we came on from the left like queue in the photo.

And meanwhile be very wary of the league tables without understanding how the figures reflect shrewd choice of exam boards and then IBAC and other non-A level exams.
